Hotel shop. Simply the words move the creative mind. In fact, even before I could get the pages of Herbert Yipma’s first Hip Hotel book, I was fascinated by the world of shopping. "How cool would it be to be the first supervisor of a big apartment store? In an attempt to make a career in an inn business, he was convinced that he must be associated with an inn shop at some point in the not too distant future.

It came true at one point or another when in 2004 I was welcomed as the general manager of what was and still is one of the most trendy department store residences in Palm Springs. I left another great opportunity to be a part of this wonderful world. Craft, plan, energy. I’ve never worked anywhere with ‘bio’. A year later, I knew what not many do in the inn business ... how close to being a great hotel and a great store. It’s not the best thing in the world and it surprises some.

First, let me first tell you that I have an exceptionally limited perspective on what housing actually includes in the store. I feel that the term “tent” when used to represent an inn is often curious. The in-store accommodations are basically without a hot plan, as many would argue.

As I see it, Inn Store is a very massive four-way property:

1. Engineering and design.

2. High degree of management. The property should not exceed 150 rooms, which improves the proportion of visitor-to-staff.

3. Advance for a specific segment.

4. Own and operate freely (here are some that will contradict me).

Tent accommodation should be a free activity. Accommodation should not be required for various more than 10 properties. Then you get a progressive corporate management style that is essential to running a huge organization and maintaining brand consistency. Take W Hotels, for example. I also like to think that this is not a shopping inn. It looks like an inn shop, so it feels like that.

The travelers decided to stay in a tent because of their history or experience. The experience is alive and it has to be great and something superior. The general social economy is people between 20 and 50 years old who work in more innovative fields such as advertising or entertainment and as a higher management level. While Ian Schrager entered the market for what many consider a mainstay hostel, this segment found that they can take advantage of their financial plan to get a room in a nice inn, rather than a traditional mid-range brand property. Also, the explosion began.

Brands versus Stores

Luxury housing managers struggle not to lose a piece of the wider industry to the retail world. Some homes remove the “brand” from their advertising and facilitate their activities so that their property is actually stored. Take Kahala Mandarin Oriental, for example. This popular luxury property was recently pulled from Mandarin Oriental to allow them to work and compete in the new mall with more free homes. They are basically “The Kahala” and they strive to be very close and independent of a major brand. I think others will follow.

General Manager of Boutique Hotel

For this arrangement, I will use the luxury accommodation as a connection to the store, as most of them share an interest with the hostel store for a strange trip. So what’s so special about being a senior supervisor in a luxury inn versus an inn with a shop? Will it really be unique? The basics are a bit similar. The chief supervisor is responsible for all day-to-day performance, contract choices, promotion, financial plans, evaluation, evaluation procedures, office support and so on. A visitor on top of a majestic inn hopes to have the opportunity to collaborate with the inn’s general manager, as visitors do on the shop property. Everything is a great touch.
